hey rodney, i was wondering what would be a good hard drive for my system, im trying to build the best i can, and money is not a problem for me. i was thinking of two HDDs in raid 0 OR two SSDs in raid 0 along with a 1 terabyte WD caviar black for storage. i was wondering what would be the best combination of SSDs or HDDs in raid 0?

my system currently

core i7-975
evga x58 classified mobo
6gbs corsair dominator gt 2000mhz
3 evga gtx 285 2gbs ftw edition in tri sli
evga 9800 gt for physix
creative xfi sound blaster titanium pro
blu ray drive
silverstone 1200w psu modular
1tb WD caviar black - storage
ABS canyon 695 case
custom watercooling

p.s. is there input you could give me for improving this set up?

  • That's his wishlist. Don't fall for it Rodney, I can come up with a better drool-list. Yeesh. A person who set up such a custom configuration didn't know what performs better, SSD or HDD. Rofl FAIL.

  • EVGA X58-SLI Classified, Core i7 Extreme, 3 GTX285's, pretty badass for someone whose Freaking Rich!

  • How do I set it up? AS 2 different Raid 0 volumes? One Raid for SSD drives and a different raid vol for SATA drives? Can I do that?

  • Hello, Rodney. I learn alot from your youtube postings. Thank you for all of your hard work. Question? I m doing a new build and I'm not sure how to setup my hard drives.

I have 2 Crucial 64GB SSD drives that I would like to run in Raid 0. This will be used for OS. I also have 2 Seagate 500GB SATA 6 hard drives. This is where I want to install my programs and games. Do I raid these 2 SATA drives?

  • @masbrastix Um...Im in the process of doing the same thing. And I didnt know either: 3 drives pulling in Raid or a SSD. Now I do, or at least from one source.

Another thing @ ribak1983 and @ masbrastix I picked my computer guys brain about this and he said if you RAID SSD's they absolutely lose their TRIM ability. I dont know what that is, havent looked it up yet, but from what I understand it is crucial to keeping up the speed of the SSD. So better to just run one big one.

  • @jolun042 Yeah, I think that's gonna be a serious issue. At the least, expect your batteries to be drained twice as fast. If you seriously want to RAID up a laptop, I'd go with a couple of 5400s to be honest. Laptops just aren't performance machines.

  • SSD in RAID....

  • SSD is faster then the 10k rpm drive

  • I have 24 3tb HDDs in raid0, I use it for my home server, no I don't use it for porn, its for movies and television shows that I archive for my family and is available to watch for everyone on the network.
