A panel of prominent marriage advocates and lawyers analyze President Obama's stance on the same-sex marriage debate.

-----

With a potentially precedent-setting legal challenge to California's Proposition 8 working its way through the federal court system, the National Constitution Center presents a timely program on the issue of same-sex marriage. Last November, California voters approved the Proposition 8 ballot measure, amending their state Constitution to ban marriages between same-sex couples. A lawsuit filed on behalf of two gay couples wishing to marry has attracted national attention.

David Boies, one of the leading lawyers in the case, is joined in a conversation by Keith Boykin, Maggie Gallagher and Glenn Stanton. Margot Adler moderates. - National Constitution Center

Glenn T. Stanton is the Director for Family Formation Studies at Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs as well as directing a major research project on international family formation trends at la Institut du Mariage et de la Famille Canada.

David Boies is the founder and chairman of Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP. He was named Lawyer of the Year by the National Law Journal and runner-up for Person of the Year by Time Magazine, served as Special Trial Counsel for the United States Department of Justice in its successful antitrust suit against Microsoft, and from 1991 to 1993 was counsel to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in efforts to recover losses for failed savings and loan associations.

Keith Boykin is the editor of The Daily Voice online news site, a CNBC contributor, a BET TV host, and a New York Times best-selling author. He served in the White House as a special assistant to President Bill Clinton.

Maggie Gallagher is president of the National Organization for Marriage, which the Washington Post recently called the "pre-eminent organization dedicated to preventing the legalization of same-sex marriage."

  • Why is Christianity even relevant in the for/against same-sex argument?

    1) Christians didn't invent marriage.

    2) We have the freedom to choose whatever religious beliefs we desire. So why are you allowed to dictate how others live according to your personal beliefs?

  • @onebadgs400 no. and it is not illegal to have sexual attraction to children.. but it is illegal to act upon those urges.

Why the hell do you think they allow non-criminal paedophiles to have counselling and what not? The reason it is illegal is because the children are below the age of consent.

  • @brokenlife229 Obviously you are a woman with daddy issues. A woman will never give you what a real man can provide. Fake that shit all you want your really not happy and you masking your issues. Oh and tell the pedophiles that they cant like little kids. They must control themselves. Oh wait you can help who you like.

  • @tara6692 and homosexuality is illogical

  • @MrGangrel1992 hahaha look at this fool. Yes it's true that scientists have observed some behavior in animals that we would describe as "bisexual" or "homosexual" when it usually has more to do with establishing dominance. Whatever the case, however, animal behavior should not be our standard for acceptable human behavior. Animals also attack and devour each other. Does that make it right for humans to behave in such a manner? Of course not. hahaha OVERPOPULATION HILARIOUS!!!!

  • Ummm Im Bisexual...... NATURE made me this way. Soooo Yeah. Lets stick to the way Nature made us.
