This was judged illegal in court. See the links below. Illegal police surveillance of protesters at the 2004 GOP convention in New York City. This one is from a hidden camera on a police officer posing as a regular citizen on a bicycle. The camera might be on his chest. There is also sound being recorded. • I may be wrong, but if you cannot film people outside their homes then all video including cell phone videos would have to be confiscated, because they are breaking the law. However in many states your privacy is in your home, not on the street. Cities can legally put up cameras on highways, streets, and other areas. As far as telling someone that they are being filmed, what do the police do when they are doing an investigation? They certainly don't tell the criminal, smile, your on camera!

  • @avocadopunk When people are in a public place, there is no expectation of privacy; in a dressing room, there is an expectation of privacy.

  • @fondue456 Here in Oregon you have to have the persons permission to video tape them in Public. The stores have to have it posted that they are being filmed. It's the law I would expect in any other state. If that wasn't the case then it wouldn't be against the law for people to put camera's up the skirts of woman and in the dressing rooms.

  • Ah, it's that familiar background noise, that of the aircraft stalked targeted individuals. What I wonder if this is indeed a targeted individual or, if like in the UK, we can expect to hear such a din in every major metropolitan area before long? Is the government beginning to stalk ALL Americans or are just some of us singled out for such "special" treatment by government agents or those purporting to be legitimate (like my Naval reservist spy ex who isn't on active duty anymore)?

  • because none of thoes people knew they were being video taped.

  • 2004?? that was like ten years ago, wasn't it? boringgg!!

  • Why is this video illegal? It was recorded in a public space?

  • Woot First Comment!!!!!!!! Yea ho.
