"By Any Means Necessary" tells the story of the Buffalo River Dene Nation, a First Nation located in Saskatchewan, Canada, and their current legal battle with the government of Canada. In 1994, when two hunters, James Sylvestre and Harry Cataract, were arrested for trespassing and illegally hunting within a government-controlled area, the community of Buffalo River rose to the defense of the hunters. This area was traditional Dene hunting grounds, but was turned into an air weapons bombing range in 1954. The bombing range was used by the Canadian and US armed forces for bombing practice during the cold war, although it was found that 99.5% of land was handed over to multinationals for oil exploration and mining. Band elders asserted that the land in question was part of their traditional lands and the treaty signed with Canada in 1906 gave them the right to use that area. Through a series of cases and appeals, a guilty verdict was finally handed down by the Canadian legal system. Determined to clear the name of the hunters, the Buffalo River Dene Nation is now attempting to charge Canada in the International Court of Justice with the breaking of their 100 year-old treaty. • @kevn02 .... if there are any problems with that rez that you're from, it's because of the bloody Indian Act and the entire reserve system they implemented!! THAT'S why there are so many problems on all the rezes, not just yours. You seem very pissed that you're a Native person! Guess what, I don't blame you one bit because the problems were caused by the damn bureaucrats in Ottawa and Washington DC! So it's no wonder WHY Natives all over Turtle Island are mad. They have every right to be!

  • were is that dillon do u know andrea catarat

  • Where Can I get this video??? Thanks

    YKX

  • im from that fucking reserve that their showing

  • Pretty much everything spoon fed to us is a lie. I listen to you with my heart. What you are saying is true beyond a doubt. Many people are still asleep but more are awakening each day. Peace.

  • This oil will fuel global warming. This oil will fuel global wars. This oil will fuel global economic disparity. This oil will fuel social strife such as the Dene has never imagined. Be cautious when speaking to oil companies about the rape of Dene Land.

  • For 30 thousand years this land has sustained the Dene people. For 30 thousand years this land is protected and provided for the Dene people. Now Oil Sands Quest and Access Energy want to rape the land with our consent so that we can improve our living conditions. We need to consider more than how full our pockets are before we agree to such an atrocity such that this mother earth has never seen in all the history of the earth.

  • Good words... all of it. Our eyes are just beginning to open. Our ears are just beginning to listen. Our voice, we are just beginning to find. And yet, Oil companies come to our land, offer us half of what is already ours, so that we can escape the poverty and exploitation of the government. If this land is ours, then let's stand up and defend it.

  • First Nation people are in the process of taking back what is ours,

We as First Nation People are the stewart's

of this land you call canada.

It's time to listen to what we are saying,

    you are distroying Mother Earth

and when she dies then so does man kind.

Is that what you really want? My guess would be I really

    dont think so.

    Brody A. Williams <Haida Gwaii Nation>

  • True enough.
