A Free Shaping session with Penelope using half a crate for a prop. I love Free Shaping, it allows you to have a wonderful conversation and learning experience with your animal.

It also reveals how they think, "who" they are, and it builds confidence and trust. Each dog/animal is of course unique and free shaping allows that uniqueness to really shine through.

Free shaping WILL keep you on your toes! It will also greatly improve your Observation and Timing skills! The animals enjoy it too, the mental challenge and stimulation makes them very happy and satisfied.

That said, freeshaping is best carried out under the guidance of a Clicker Trainer skilled in this art. This is because if your timing and observations are not accurate, you can cause your animal to experience a great deal of stress and frustration. And we always want to be aware of the learner's stress level during training and ensure it is kept at a minimum. Yes, there are times when a bit of frustration is desired in order to reach the next level or phase but it can be easy to overwhelm an animal who is new to freeshaping.

  • great video :)

  • @cinnamon8884, Thank you! glad you enjoyed it :-)

  • Mary well done to you for clicking on perfect timing, and well done to Penelope for being so clever!! love it :o)))

  • @abirdslife Thank you Cheryl! You know how some sessions are "ok", and others are really wonderful. this one felt really wonderful for me and little Penelope. I've been battling allergies past few weeks and a few of my sessions with sweet Piglet were just "ok" b/c my eyes and nose would begin to itch/tickle, sudden urge to reach for a tissue. oh my! hard to focus when battling itchy nose/eyes! but no major allergies on this day with Penelope :-) As always, Thanks for your support! :-))

  • Beautiful training! What a great learner!
