Training aid for learning Flying Backwards.
Flying Backwards Tip #19
The hardest thing about flying backwards is turning. It is like learning to back up a car, you are looking one way and stearing the other sort of. Practice on the sim trying to pull off a backwards flying circuit. It takes a combination of moving backwards, then right rudder and right backing to pull off a backwards turn or circuit to the right or CCW direction. You have to correct if the bank gets to steep by adding opposite aileron and make sure to keep the heli moving backwards so as not to stall out and don't let it dive to the deck either! Remember, the elevator stick controls the tail-up and tail-down just like in regular circuits. Flying backwards is no exception. When flying backwards I have a hard time remembering anything. So just practice on the sim a lot. Challenge yourself to only fly backwards for a few days.
Tippy-tip:
On this vid I get too far away at the end, so I tipped it forwards and went for a loop to get my bearings, then, once knowing the direction of travel, I was able to steer it back home forwards.
Yeah, that taught me heaps!
