This all took place near Camp Point, IL (10-15mi east of Quincy). This was the storm that had ealier did major damage in Kirksville, MO. While there were no tornado touchdowns at this point, we saw several funnel clouds. A lot of chasers were on this storm still as it went though Illinois. If we had just an hour more light, this storm would have produced a tornado for us. Still a successful chase in my book though!

  • lol, alright I've got nothing else to say

  • Do want to mention real quick that some of those features were funnel clouds. I did a little research to figure out where the reports were that day. There were other chasers around, and they saw funnel clouds too. We're not completely stupid

  • which is exactly why I did not chase at night until I knew what I was doing. Is this really that hard of a concept?

  • Did you just miss what I said? I brought my dad along who had years more experience than me. We shouldn't be arguing about this anymore anyways as I have a little more night-time experience to me. You will no longer see me freaking out over a "rainshaft" (i know thats what it is now, but at that time we were fooled. You got to remember, a funnel cloud was reported around this time too so were were led to believe there was a funnel there)

  • that's why you don't chase, especially at night, if you have no clue what you're doing.

Also, the chick's gotta be the most annoying narrator I've ever heard.

  • I will be honest and say i, at this point, had no idea how to night spot which is why I brought my dad along. He had much more experience than me so i felt more comfortable. We've done more and more chasing so no more worries that i'll "dumb" to you guys and not know what i'm doing. Its a learning process, which i'm sure you guys have gone through too. You guys didn't know right off the bat how to night tornado chase

  • this girl is so annoying talking on her! just shut up for once

  • But just because someone near you saw a funnel does not mean what you are looking at is a funnnel.

  • Ok well we know that now (duh). I'm sure if you were there too, it looked suspicious. And the fact it had produced the Kirksville tornado made me even more suspicious. Did I mention it was dark? Hard to see when it's dark!

  • Definately a rain shaft! sorry.
