Paan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paan) is a form of after-dinner chew in India. While in Mumbai, I decided I wanted to give it a try. The first night, after dinner, I'd tried the "sweet paan." The sweet variety is a beetle leaf, cherry, coconut and areca nuts. Since I was a fan, my Indian hosts decided I should try common paan, with menthol and tobacco--our equivalent of chewing tobacco. Not all bad. After the novelty of the crowd around me settled, I sat around with my hosts and chewed for a bit. Fun to try something a little different.
