The Pipkins are most notably remembered for their zany song "Gimme Dat Ding" in 1970. Most of their songs were as wacky like "Are You Cooking Goose", "The People Dat You Wanna Phone Ya! " and a crazy cover of "Yakety Yak".

This is the B-Side to "Gimme Dat Ding" - one of the few serious songs that they recorded.

  • It must must be 40 years since I last heard this... it's so familiar, and I remembered all the lyrics. It doesn't really sound very 1960's/70's, does it?

  • @francis2811 --- Thanks for the comment! The sound is timeless. It could be very well be re-made today with simple acoustic production.

  • As a kid who grew up in Chicago, I was given this 45 rpm record for my birthday in February 1971. Gimmie Dat Ding was great but, To Love You was my favorite song!!

To this day, I love that song. I have sung it to my wife as best I could... There just aren't many great love songs like To Love You.

It seems to have come from the heart.

Thanks for placing it here for us to hear once again.

(I sure would like another 45 rpm copy of it!!)

  • @geoyahn -- Thanks for the comment! "To Love You" is certainly a 180 degree turn from the rest of what the Pipkins recorded. This song has heart!

I shared this with my wife after we married and it's one of her favorites too. I wonder how well this would have done if they had released this separately....

  • Great song, worlds away from "Gimme Dat Ding." Thanks for another overlooked blast from the past!

  • @RecordWarped Again, thanks for your kind post. I think this is pure Tony Burrows. He has an awesome voice. and yes, almost a different genre from the rest of the Pipkins' material.
