Why is fruit so important after a good workout?

Let's start from the beginning. When your body is working out, when you're using resistance training for your weights and so on, you are tearing tissue. When your tissue is being torn, you are burning glucose. You're using the sugar in your body to create this energy to tear your muscles.

So, what happens to the body after the workout, it is depleted of its sugar sources. So, your blood sugar drops indicating to your body that there needs to be a rush of glucose back into your body.

  • what about the sugar in fruit spiking insulin and rendering the HGH (human growth hormone) ineffective? Unless you are totally depleted in glycogen and need to work out again same day isn't there plenty of time to refuel?

  • @pop2u1 YES!

  • Actually Complex carbs are the best post workout thing to eat...such as a small amount of yam.(sweet potato). You don't want simple carbs from fruit immediately after a workout.

  • too bad fructose doesn't spike insulin. Thus eating fructose post workout can eventually lead to insulin resistance and type II diabetes. But what do I know this guy is jacked so maybe there's something to it.

  • humans havent been around for 2.3 million years

  • dude, you need to eat fruits for vitamins. when you deplete the glucose your body converts your fat into it.

  • But I thought that there is a two hour period after working out where hgh is flooded into your body. Wouldn't the consumption of fruit, which is a SIMPLE SUGAR have adverse effect on that? PLEASE elaborate on that. :-)

  • @SosukeAizenTaisho besides coffee and honey what would be a good post work out drink w/ the banana?

  • @24meatballs yes, it has a high GI (glycemic index) and does the job best.

  • What adverse effects would I notice from combining both whey isolate and fruit together as isolate has a big effect on spiking insulin like fruit?
