I've lived around these guys all my life (along with rattlers). What a great looking snake. And I agree with the other posts - This guy is doing the exact right thing. This is good for his kids and good for nature. One thing though, I wish more people would understand that rattlers are just as important as any other snake in keeping a natural balance in wildlife. They're only dangerous if you pester them. In my 64 years, I've never seen a rattler do anything but try and escape human contact.
Wow, that's a good size one depending on where you found it. Herper48, bullsnakes are a subspecies of gopher snake, but I think you might be right it looks more like a bull, or maybe a sonoran gopher, depends again on range. Nice job getting the kids that experience!
i agree with a previous post. i used to hate snakes, but once i got to actually pet one and be with one, it wasnt so bad. its good to not let kids grow up with irrational fears
It is a very nice way to help kids respect and love the nature including the plants and animals.

Brave kids...I would never pick up a wild snake, lol. And I own 10 snakes...but all mine where captive born.
