Silent 8mm film of a young hand raised raccoon (Procyon lotor), playing in the backyard with the family dogs. The one bird dog tolerated this raccoon but the others (labrador retrievers) weren't so fond of this type play. Later one night, when no people were around, the dogs killed the raccoon. Unfortunately, probably a common fate for animals that lose their wildness, when reared by humans caretakers trying to save an orphaned animal. In this case, the raccoon should not have been allowed to play with the dogs, but even so would probably have had been too tame to survive in the wild.
maybe i should learn from this and accept the reality that while one ferret likes my orphaned snowshoe hare, the three others really will eat her at the first chance they get. I guess it's time for separation...(sadness)...
