when i visited Paris 6 years ago i stayed in a hotel near La Defense one day i actualy walked from La Defense to the Bastille it is a great city

A walk from the Arch de Triumph to Bastile was about all I could manage this trip. It cost me about 300 Euros for food, shopping and drinks. But what a beautiful walk!

It is Left Bank, near Metro-Odeon off blvd. St. Germain. Glad you like it. Also Rue St. Dennis (Right Bank) near Les Halles appears the same at sunset.

Actually, having been to Paris six times over 30 years, I prefer cities like Berlin, Hamburg, or Prague both for authenticity and value for money. Everything in Paris is over-priced for the quality you get. And, may I mention, two out of six times I experienced food poisoning in Paris? Something has changed in the place and it's not what it once was.

get outside of paris, without those fancy operators, you'll find cheap ways to stay in france.

But you got to take it early.
