VA is building a library that documents women in the United States Armed Forces, from their significant contributions to national safety and security to the ongoing challenges faced during their service and after returning to civilian life. Click to watch the story of Brigadier General Wilma Vaught, the first woman to deploy on a strategic air command. See http://www.womenshealth.va.gov/WOMENSHEALTH/multimedia/VAUGHT.asx for the Section 508 compliant version of this video.

  • I'd like to thank all of the women who came before me in service. When I enlisted in rotorwing maintenance in 1980, I was one of the few. When asked to stay on as an instructor at the Crew Chief School, I was only the second female OH-58 helicopter maintenance instructor the U.S. Army ever had - the only women in 4 years. It was challenging but I succeeded. By the time I left, I had a family there, was respected by my students. I hope my service made it better for those who came after me.
