Quite right. Romanians are descended from the Romans. That's why they're called Romanians. Romanians say they have no trouble understanding Italian.
I admit I was puzzled by Gheorghiu's pronunciation of "me" in "non ti scordar di me."
She pronounced it "mee" rather than "may." I wonder why?
In any event, I agree, it was hardly the end of the world.
