Sometimes I wonder why the image of Mr. Clean went over so well from the start (the product was introduced in 1958). A man wearing an earring--especially a big hoop one--wasn't a cultural given of representing hip, masculine toughness then. If anything, it meant he was weak..particularly in the wrist, if you know what I mean.
