British military rules in Afghanistan forbid the buying of local produce, but that has posed a challenge for the Gurkhas. They love nothing better than freshly slaughtered Nepal goat and chicken curry. The rules mean military chefs have had to cook up a solution to preserve what is an important Gurkha tradition. Their answer is to use frozen meat from New Zealand and Uruguay, transformed by clever use of the Army's biggest spice cupboard in Afghanistan. British Forces News cameras have been to Checkpoint Lamar in the Nahr-e-Saraj district to see how the substitute curry has been going down.
