Freeman Dyson on Global Warming 2of2 Stratospheric Cooling

A prominent scientist who's followed the science of global warming from the beginning, Dyson explains why climate models have no scientific merit, why average global ground temperature is a great fiction, and what he believes the real dangers of increased CO2 in the atmosphere are. He suggests that the relatively simple solution of land use management could potentially give us the ability to control the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere at any level we'd like, and there's no need to stop burning coal and oil.

We NOW know that an entire industry (freon-based cooling systems) was unnecessarily re-tooled. Hundreds of billions of dollars wasted, and the poorest nations were rendered incapable of acquiring the cooling systems the civilized world has enjoyed for decades! Just like the ban on DDT, the ban on CFCs, and the current push to ban fossil fuel consumption, gov't run science is destructive. Politics spoil the data. The perversion of science in the U.S. began with the progressive movement over 100 yrs ago.

It really caught hold in the 1960s when political activists managed to end the use of DDT on the basis of an emotional essay written by Rachel Carson: "Silent Spring". Never mind that the essay was complete scientific bunk. Never mind that people can eat spoonfuls of raw DDT and not be harmed. DDT was banned nonetheless, and MILLIONS of people died of malaria as a result.

AGW is the same pseudo-science.

It just happens that we started monitoring the ozone from space satellites during a period of increasing solar activity - this upset the natural equilibrium between ozone creation and destruction in the upper atmosphere. Unfortunately, we lost Dyson before the satellite data from solar cycle 24 was available to prove neither CO2 nor CFCs had anything to do with ozone depletion at the end of the 20thC -- it was due to stronger solar cycles.

Solar activity for cycle 24 is half what it was for solar cycles 21, 22, and 23. This has resulted in ozone hole diminishment -- one of nature's feedbacks to a less active sun. Some idiots think ozone is depleting due to mankinds use of CFCs. Nonsense. Crutzen, Howard, and Molina deserve their Nobel prize stripped for the ridiculous theory of CFC emissions somehow getting to the stratosphere, releasing chlorine, which then attacks ozone for "100 yrs". Only imbeciles would believe such crap.

the ozone isnt getting stronger.stip being a complete idiot.even if the sun i getting weaker which it will,in mllions of millions of years from now, that wont make the ozone stronger just less weaker.

"Dyson explains why climate models have no scientific merit" No. He said the data inputs are still too new (as of 2007) for him to have confidence in the model outputs yet. Over time, they should improve. But he states right here he's actually still worried about it, but mostly due to the ozone layer in the short term. He contradicts himself sort of when he says we don't know as much about how plants interact with the atmosphere yet he has confidence forest management could be a cheaper solution

The ozone is actually getting stronger because the sun is getting weaker. As the sun gets weaker and cooler we get cooler, and our ozone gets stronger....
