This was Dolly's first real break, written by Dolly and her uncle Bill (not Bill Phillips). It won an award for the BMI Song of the Year in 1966. Everyone soon started wondering who the background singer was, obviously. It wasn't hard to see she out-shined Bill in this recording.

@pippigirl Dolly outshines everyone she sings with. Bill is no exception. I think he holds his own pretty well and blends with her very nicely. I just recently discovered Bill Phillips, though I've heard this song done by others. This version is by far the best one. It's a shame he didn't get more songs as strong as this one to record.
