Citizens Fighting Employers Who Hire Illegal Day Laborers

ABC World News Tonight reports on citizens combating unscrupulous employers whom hire illegal immigrants at exploitation wages rather than hire U.S. citizens and legal immigrants at respectable, market wages. ABC followed these citizens at a Lake Forest, California protest as they take pictures of contractors hiring illegal day laborers, then post these photos at WeHireAliens.com (a project of FIRE Coalition).

[The WeHireAliens.com website allows individuals to report employers of illegal labor to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. Information from these reports is also made available to the public. Website users can search the database for reported businesses, and boycott those businesses that are breaking federal law to gain an unfair business advantage.]

Europeans did commit great atrocities in the New World centuries ago, and that would particularly INCLUDE the Spanish Conquistadors who are responsible for the complete destruction of many Native American Societies. Hispanics in the Americans are descendents of the Spanish and Portuguese colonists - just as European as the descendants of English, French and Dutch colonists. And yes, we're well aware of the 1848 treaty in which Mexico lost the area now comprising much of the SW US. Mexico controlled that land for only 25 years since it succeeded from Spain in 1821. By 1848, American settlers outnumbered Mexican Settlers in that area by 5-to-1. In any legitimate sense, it was never sovereign Mexican territory. Spain's original claim to the land came from a edict from the Pope in the 16th Century, the legitimacy of which was always in question. Want more?

For the record, FIRE Coalition has always distinguished between legal immigrants and illegal immigrants, regardless of their country of origin. For the Coalition, is a matter of coming here legally and adhering to our laws.
