@IronHoyas Sorry I'm late to the dinner table. I also have no idea about anything here but why is it not safe? Is the "spotter" the person who holds the dunbar (?) when someone is lifting to stop it crushing the lifter if things go awry?

@IronHoyas Oh, my apologies. I have just been to spot whenever possible, although this may be due to the fact I have to lift with inexperienced lifters.

@BELLEFORDIER I would be more than willing to read your opinion on how spotting snatches and cleans is a good idea. Also, please try and keep this page somewhat clean from name calling, I would prefer to leave commenting open....

Spotting Olympic lifts is not safe, and since the athletes have been taught how to properly dump a missed lift on the platform spotting would be unnecessary.
