When experiencing a tire blowout, the key is to keep your cool, and to maintain control at all times.

To complete this How-To you will need:

A quick response time
Calm under pressure

Step 1: Stay cool

Ignore your natural instinct to hit the brakes or jerk the steering wheel when you have a blowout.

Step 2: Accelerate slightly

Accelerate slightly to maintain control of the vehicle. Keep going straight.

Tip: Hold the steering wheel firmly with both hands at 10 o'clock and two o'clock on the wheel to avoid losing control.

Step 3: Decelerate

Ease off the accelerator slowly.

Step 4: Coast

Maintain your course while the vehicle slows.

Step 5: Apply brakes

Apply the brakes gently when your car slows to 30 miles per hour.

Step 6: Turn on right turn signal

Turn on your right turn signal.

Tip: Never stop on the left side of the road, if possible. This is the most dangerous place to be.

Step 7: Pull over

Pull your vehicle off to the side of the road, and breathe a sigh of relief...you've just survived a blowout.

  • When my tire blows out, I'm going to jerk the shit of the steering wheel so that I make the problem worse.

  • This is EXTREMELY valuable and true! I had a blowout a week ago and spun out in the middle of an interstate. I collided with two other cars (no one hurt, thank goodness). Although I had control of the car, I made getting off the road a priority.

I didn't jerk the wheel; I tried to slowly get over to the right, but the back end fishtailed, causing the accident.

Remember: STAY as STRAIGHT as possible until you're going slowly, THEN worry about getting off the road.

  • 1:12 OF FUCK YEAH WE BEAT U GUYS IN SEAT BELT USAGE WE BETTR DEN YALL. WE SURVIVE :D

  • Having experienced this as well as being hit by a drunk driver, I have to say that taking the time to use a turn signal is pointless and obviously the idea of someone who has never been in a crisis situation. Not only is it crazy to think you should remember to use it, but if the others drivers don't notice you having a blowout, smoking tires, spinning, etc, they're sure as fuck not gonna look at your turn signal.

  • In a tire blowout, just lock the handbrake and pull off a 180 degree slide.

  • Your video was great, but in order to demonstrate what really would happen in a real life situation you should have blown a tire.

  • get out of the car and scream FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Souwannaknow watch "Tire blow on Highway" (/watch?v=okVCwoqxMgI&feature=related) if u wanna see wat happen if u hit the brakes while turning.... before u start trolling

  • @AFailProduction let go of the gas and try to finish the turn then do what the video says.. but dont hit the gas.. if u slide, turn into the slide.. this will spin and stop the car.. and shuts off the engine.. and hope it was the rear tire.. if its the front.. DO NOT HIT THE BRAKES.. good chance u might flip from the your rim digging into the road.. if your goin 50+ mph.. DO NOT PRAY.. I dont know if u notice.. in movies.. people who pray in bad situations.. kinda die... just hold on the ride

  • We had a blowout yesterday in Connecticut with our 89 suburban. We were hauling a car on an auto transport from Uhaul, when all of a sudden the goddamn tire exploded on the freeway. Suburban crashes down onto the rim. We didn't swerve or nothing, and luckily there was a large break down lane.

    Didn't hit any other cars.

    Hella loud explosion though.

Had to run in the interstate to pick up the suburban's tire. Glad it was the rear tire and not a front tire.

    Damaged the muffler, tailpipe, &chrome.

  • sooo if a country drives on the left hand side of the road. pulling over to the left is unsafe still.

  • this is weird how this stuff popped up in my suggestions box one day after I passed my theoretical exam :D
