Former U.S. Chief of Mission in Iraq and ambassador to Mauritania, Mr. Edward Peck served as deputy director of the White House Task Force on Terrorism in the Reagan Administration.

As part of a delegation organized by the Council for the National Interest, Mr. Peck and a group of diplomats met with Hezbollah secretary-general, Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah.

During the meeting, Nasrallah discussed Hezbollah's strategy to free Lebanese prisoners being held in Israel. He also spoke about the origins of Hezbollah, and recounted an event that is back in the news this week—Israel's bombing of a UN observation post in the southern Lebanese town of Qana in 1996 which killed 106 Lebanese refugees.
One of the retired diplomats who met with Nasrallah in February was Edward Peck - he spoke to Amy Goodman on Democracy Now after the outbreak of the war on Lebanon in the summer of 2006.

  • ctspok, dream on! She doesn't even mention Hezbollah when talking about the civil war. So much for your comprehension of the English Language. Hezbollah was the ONLY major party NOT to take part in the civil war. However, much you want us to believe Israel's is a friend Lebanon it won't change the FACT that they rained 4 million cluster bombs in 3 DAYS aimed at killing and maiming INNOCENT children.

  • After all these horrid experiences that Brigitte talks about, it takes one hell of a barbaric and ruthless nation to fuel such a civil war. Surprise, surprise...Israel's name comes up.

  • Until now, you have been unable to put forward to us a SINGLE list of the Lebanese political parties within the political opposition. Stop spamming and post that list. By the way, the World Council of Churches before a few days called for an END to occupation. That's no one Christian, but rather 550 MILLION Christians. Israel has endangered the most sacred sites of both Christians and Muslims.
