  • I wish the alto and tenor sax solo choruses weren't cut out. Then we'd be able to hear what this arrangement builds up to from the beginning starting with the baritone solo on the head. And the drums aren't up on top like they should be. It would have lived up to the title if the band spent some time building up the momentum to how the piece ends. In all it sounds like they're scuffling along sight-reading the piece. Far cry from the real HJ.

2 stars. Such good musicians warrant better.

  • Not a very Harry james like trumpet solo

  • I hear some chops hangin' out in the trumpet section. Any group with Lanny Morgan in the reed section has gotta be worth staying up late for!

  • Bass is way too hot. Drowning out the horns! Wonder if that's how the balance sounded to the audience? Hope not. Baritone player's scuffling a little. Tempo's a little geriatric compared to the usual James tempo of this chart, which was brisker. Trumpets kind of collapse on the ending. Love this chart, though - "Ultra". Its by Jimmy Mundy, a great writer.
