And just as in Japan, all those tools were employed by what was basically a caste of hired goons for decadent feudal lords. They just didn't enjoy the priviledge of living on an island. So they hat little time to sugarcoat there murderous existence with quite as much new age bullshit.

Asskissing western historians, why not contemplate what might have made China the isolated and agressive nation it is today? Maybe the crimes of a country obsessed with its warriors? Crimes still denied?

On a more practical level, European blacksmiths forged perfectly comparable cold weapons a millenium earlier, multi-layered steel and everything, but without having th spend that much time and effort on it due to superior raw materials. Although, German blacksmiths were higher beings as well, if one believes old fairy tales like the Nibelungen saga to the letter. But no one does who's mind has matured beyond a LARPer or a fifth-grader.

Only difference might be that the Germans have accepted the fact that they defaced and betrayed whatever glorious national tradition they might have had by indulging in delusions of supremacy and plunging half the world into war and barbarianism. And people obsessing about prussian warrior ethos while hugging their grandfathers prized Luger aren't so kindly looked upon.

Instead, people have moved on. Welcome to modern times, Japan. Face your self-inflicted alienation and learn to deal with it.

The Katana is the Jap equivalent of the German Mauser 08. Both delicate and sophisticated, yet inferior tools built to enforce tyranny. Both treasured as a war trophy. Both mystified by American GIs as a means to second-hand-gloryfy there own part in what was basically organised mass murder, be it justified or not.

Lol, the old fart and his daughter performing the circus stunt with the blunt arrow is funny, if little dignified. How come they never show the girl in focus from the side? Could it be she barely tightens that bow and the arrow merely falls towards him? Wouldn't be surprised if the father wore a protective corset under that dress...

The thing i dislike about such documentaries is that when they dub the japanese voice they add a idiotic japanese english accent to the dub i.e. "Disu breido was made by bla blah" you know what i mean. It's racist and stereotypical.
