I suppose I should explain too that when I say Kelso is only 4 miles from the border it doesn't mean there are large English communities there. along the river there are only tiny (what the English would call) hamlets. Immediately to the south of the Kelso-yetholm-Jedburgh area there is just wild sparsely populated hill country.

Maxwellheugh is a part of Kelso. We are about 4 miles or so from the border. What you describe does happen in that real locals from Coldstream speak completely differently from real locals just across the border in Cornhill and the same with Ladykirk and Norham etc. Close communities but different communities going to different schools etc. The accents and dialects evolve at an early age.

How come its kinda a pure Scottish accent? when... Maxwellheugh is like near the border. I'm looking at towns near Scottish/English border and wondering how can an accent be different from 250 metres away 1 town in Scotland to 1 town in England 250m apart .. strange.
