The Seoul Metropolitan Subway (Korean: 수도권 전철 sudogwon jeoncheol), in Seoul, South Korea, is one of the most heavily used rapid transit systems in the world, with well over 8 million trips daily on the system's thirteen lines (total figures for Seoul Metro, Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation & Korail commuter lines). The system serves Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi-do and northern Chungcheongnam-do. There is a connection (not a free transfer) to the Incheon International Airport Railroad (A'REX) at Gimpo Airport Station on Line 5 and a free transfer with the single-line Incheon Subway system at Bupyeong on Seoul Subway Line 1. Over 70% of the total metro track length is underground.

All directional signs in the Seoul Subway are written in both Korean and English. Station signs and some maps also display traditional Chinese. The pre-recorded voice announcement in the trains indicating the upcoming station, possible line transfer and exiting side are all in Korean followed by English, and in some cases Japanese then Chinese.

  • i'm so depress right now cuz i can't get a japan visa since don't have a bank account and they require 3 months so i have to wait until october when the price for the tickets r down , but after watching this video i'll just go to seoul while i wait in may - but i have no idea what to do there besides lotte world and jeju island , what can u recommend me there? and how many days would be good for first timer , thanks " still depress =( "

  • @japantruthify001 HEHE Tokyo is not a dirty city at all, and cannot be compared to New York AT ALL.. I am korean, but I have been to tokyo many times and it's subways as well as streets are as clean if not cleaner and MUCH more beautiful then those in Seoul.

  • Awwh wow it's just like London's underground but much cleaner hahaha.

  • hello! at 0:50, do you know what's the meaning of the number 2 digit beside the korean word? **on the signboard above the entrance.

  • Wow so much more simple than I thought it would be :)

  • I just get excited every time I see something about Seoul, I cant wait to visit! this was a cool video! Thanks for the upload!

  • I lived in Tokyo for six years. All those people standing on the left side of the escalators would get knocked down or pushed in Japan. Left side is for walking / running. Right side is for standing.

  • This is pretty useful info.I am going to Seoul next month and was wondering how the metro there works. Thanks michaelarnold13 so much.

  • @stephenterill The Subway System in Seoul was based off of a French subway, actually. So it's the other way around.
