High atop Table Mountain in Cape Town my film crew and I stumble upon a cuddly dassie with a nasty secret.

  • LOL, love the video! Never heard of a hyrax being called a Shawarma Bear but they're very much like it. I've never seen hyraxes eat garbage, but then again, the ones we have here (which are rock hyraxes and not tree hyraxes like the one in your video) are in very eco-friendly nature reserves and don't have easy access to trash bins.

  • Not common but "shawarma bear" is used in some of the Middle Eastern countries I've visited. The Cape locals also call them Dassies. BTW, this is a Rock Hyrax.
