  • phenomenal. joe's tone and phrasing are uncanny. when people ask me who my favorite guitarists are Joe is usually one the first people i name, unfortunately most guitarists my age have no clue who he is.

  • I had a '62 Jazzmaster and traded it in on a new Jaguar because of all the chrome and switches. I hated that thing and right up till today would have sworn that Jaguars sound like crap. Shows what I know. Holy Smokes.

  • Leo Fender had no idea when he created the Jazzmaster and Jaguar, that they would be the 2 best Surf instrumental guitars of all time. And Joe was an exceptional Jazz musician.

  • Joe Pass was an unbelievable genius. No amount of practice will allow you to play like this unless you have the talent. You can become very very good, but this is off the charts.

  • this man is really outstanding, long live Joseph!

  • nice to see him playing on a Jaguar

  • @rayjr62 You're right. If we think about all our favorite electric players (regardless of the style) and their best stuff, you usually find that all they used was just a guitar and an amp. In other words... Practice! ;-)

  • @mikestrat56 Correct. It isn't the guitar (or the gear. . . oh, and by the way, there wasn't a whole lot of "gear" available to musicians ca. 1962), but the guitar player.

  • Wow!

  • @RonVermillion Don't sweat it. It ain't the guitar. It's his hands.

  • Truly gifted and he pays homge to those who truly invented the music.

  • Surprised to see him picking. Later style was playing with thumb and fingers as far as I can see, but I can't figure out how he gets the speed of picking that was like he does from the pick here. Later style must have grown from this, but I don't know how.
