Incompetence is a strong word that I don't use lightly, but it surely applies to Connecticut traffic lights. Not just traffic lights, but also stop signs, No Turn on Red signs, speed limits, and even road markings. In this scathing critique of Connecticut traffic signals I show the problems with traffic control devices, and explain what should be done to manage traffic more efficiently and more fairly.

  • Ethan, a pet peve of mine is cars running red lights.

  • @lisa1236424 Agreed, it's dangerous. But people often do that because they're frustrated with lights that are red for no reason. If a car was really coming, they wouldn't go through the light! Though some people are rude and cut you off.

  • I kind of disagree with the information you displayed. It defeats the purpose of having a light at an intersection to let people go straight and left on a red light. Put a stop signa there instead. You also only looked at the cons of traffic lights. If we didn't have them, you would've been in a ton of collisions by now. While I disagree with your opinion, I still respect it though.

  • @177987auprr1 Thanks for your good comments. I agree about left on red. Really, the lights should just be set to flash at off-peak hours. That would solve most of the problems. And obviously we need traffic lights some places some times. That's a given.

  • Hi Ethan. Great video. I wanted to follow up on your film. Excellent job!

I've studied traffic control for a while now and I have learned a lot. Even a good read of our state's transportation code enlighten me on what can be done with those control devices.

I wholly agree with your statement about the incompetence of people who program traffic control devices (traffic lights). Even in a small town such as the one I live in, it is a nightmare...

  • @pcwalker Excellent comments, thanks Phil. And thanks again for letting me use your video clip of the flashing traffic lights.

    Connecticut ROCKS

  • Originally, I am from CT, the drivers in CT are some of the best in the country, IMO. NV, where I now live, has some of the worst (forget if it ever snowed). Also, the dumbest school speed limits, you can drive 25 MPH through an elementary school area; but, a High School speed limit is 15 MPH; I guess kids get dumber in NV as they get older.

  • I live in CT and have passed all those lights at least 2 times and some in Danbury and Brookfield every day, the last light ( in German Town Danbury ) is right down the road from where I live and a pass it at least 6 times a week it is across from the fire house at a busy intersection and I get stuck at it all the time in my mind these traffic lights are a problem

  • There are companies who specialize in traffic management. Instead of sensors, as they are called LOOPS, video camera are more in cost but dont have to be replaced. Everytime your repave and mill the road, the loops are destroyed.

  • When I lived in ct the traffic light was bad they so short green arrows and they would turn off suddenly sometimes there wasnt green arrows when you needed one like dixwell and church st and also treadwell

  • Why not roundabouts?

  • I love you .Mitt The LDS Pit Dweller For President typical habitual White Christian colonial hypocrisy(G.D.America

  • Driving in the US and Canada is the biggest nuissance I have ever experienced. Speed limits are ridiculously low, most traffic lights are poorly programed and many drivers are outright dangerous in 3ton trucks. Most of all though I hate the stupid speed limits. Consider the TransCanada highway; thousands of miles of road and a 100kmh(60mph) speed limit: it's stupid! How come the unregulated German Autobahn produces half as many fatalities per capita a year? Sympathetic greetings from Germany

  • @ethanwiner dude lol so funny I came across this video... I recently moved out of CT but was born and raised in New England and CT is the state I originally earned my license some 8 yrs ago. Anyway at the time I remember sitting in these riduclous situations with people or by myself and cussing to either them, or myself "Its fucking 2010! (at the time) Lets update this god damn light technology" hahaha

  • do u have ur license suspended for some months is u violate red light, or just a fine>

  • Connecticut is so beautiful! I can't wait to get out of boring, hot, and disgustingly humid Florida!
