Pagans didn't 'trick' anyone. They had their religion for long time, why would they convince Christians about anything?? They didn't care about them. It was the Christians who were invading and forcibly converting in concurred countries and if some belief or custom was too deep rooted in peoples culture they would incorporated it in they own religion. That way it was easier to force people to become Cristian if it resonated with something they believed in for generations.

And if you cross-referenced a little you would see that most dates that are some Christian holiday were at some point a holiday in pagan religions.
I'm not saying that's in not valid religion, not at all but these are just the facts and it's not like it happened for the first time. One religion taking elements from the other, that is. Romans did the same with Greek religion (although more obviously :)

That's exactly what I am saying. I have cross-referenced dates and it is a shame that Christians who do not know any better are celebrating pagan god holy days masked as Christian holidays. A huge example would be Christmas. It is not Jesus's birthday, but Tammuz's birthday. Jesus was born during Jewish tax time - approx. September. Tammuz is Nimrod & Ishtar's son who Christians are tricked into worshipping, complete with the yule log... Odin rode around on an 8-legged reindeer. Hmmm...

Well if you want 'original' religion who doesn't have any links or commonalities with earlier religions of that region you're out of luck beacuse you shoud go as far as before stone age. I'm just trying to say to you that Cristianty is nothing special when it comes to taking part of other religions in itself. Muslims take from Christianity - Christianty takes from Paganisam, Paganisam - takes from Animisam, Animisam takes from reverence of natural world?

Also Jung discovered there are some symbols in subconsciousness of all humans (a.k.a.archeotypes) no matter what their upbringing or country that IMO may have affect on religios sybomolism too.e.g.-black dog -death, strong hero who defients monsters and saves us, snakes as symbols of life and death (or life circle), cross or foursided deities etc.
Of couse you can't accept this arguments if you don't belive that systems of religions are human made not coming from 'above'.

I personaly belive that there are some forces and it's up to us to find metaphor and/or form that suits us most to connect with these forces around and in us but that's just me:)
