Inflight on a NW DC-9-40. Love those JT8D's! *** As of Jan 4, 2011 the last DC-9-40 was removed from the fleet and ferried down to SFB for scrapping***.

  • Does it really sound like this or is it some kind of interference?

  • @eltfell That's how it sounds!

  • sound like im at a laundromat.

  • @eltfell It's interference, but not in the traditional sense...the mic gain is too high, so it sounds like the engine noise is overdriving the mic.

  • Damn... I would get MAD like hell if i got the seat in the back on this one. Quiet A320 for the win.

  • sounds like a washing machine! gotta love that plane tho!

  • i rode in th back of a many a dc9-50 back in the 80's and the engines always seemed to make the pulsating noise when taking off and crusing and when the pilot would reduce thrust it was a really neat pulsating sound. i think it is beacuse the rpm of the 2 engines isnt exactly equal and thats what causes the sound.

  • THE SOUND MEANS IT'S WORKING!- WORKING VERY WELL!

xD i love the dc-9 so much

  • @ronaldbuffalo2 no it does sound like a train, wouldn't call that a good recording

  • Very good sound recording. This is the way we remember it sounded.

The same engines on Caravelles were even louder. I guess it must be gear vibrations transmitting thru the metal structure.
