Funny that the birth of the internet as well as the birth of film included kitty-stars.

I turned up my sound, because I thought it was mute. But then I remembered.

    Search "theoatmeal . com/blog/tesla_response"

Since I'm not certain if you know of this critique and response I've just mentioned, I'll leave you a link for them.

I have actually, and I've also read the critique that was made to the comic, and the response to the critique as well, so I'll mention the final portion of that response: "Lastly, I'm a comedian and I speak in hyperbole. If you sharpshoot my work you will find that I exaggerated for the sake of comedy. If you want to read pedantically-impenetrable articles about early 20th century engineers, go to Wikipedia or stroll down to the US Patent Office." But Wikipedia is a terrible idea in my opinion.

"Flying saucers, that one sounds like pure bogus," Check the sixth chapter of My Inventions. Edison made a commercially practical light bulb, and yes it's over simplified to, "He invented it the light bulb." by school teachers, but by now it has nothing on what a Tesla fanatic will claim about their hero. Have you seen the claims made in "The Oatmeal" comic?

(continuing) Ball lightning, it's a reported unexplained natural phenomena, although he was the first to generate large scale artificial lightning bolts with his Tesla Coil. Flying saucers, that one sounds like pure bogus, but he did invent the wireless remote control system and demonstrated it with a toy boat, which was considered largely useless at the time. Also, a note on your final statement... You forgot Edison's generalized, exaggerated and overrated popularity over "his" light bulb.

Free energy, there's immense dispute to whether it's even possible to do so or not, but not many scientific studies are performed on it either, probably because of the immense amount of money at risk if Tesla's theory is confirmed. Earthquake machines, I find it highly doubtful. The death ray, there are many theories from "he destroyed the plans" to "the US government stole the plans after successful tests", but once against, there's very little certainty. (continued)

Well, Tesla didn't do anything to improve upon radar, but his online cult of personality will often make the claim that he is its true inventor based on a single (unfeasible) proposal. It's not unheard of to meet people that believe (based on his other outlandish proposals) that invented free energy, earthquake machines, a death ray, ball lightning, flying saucers, etc. No one has ever exaggerated Edison's accomplishments to this ridiculous extent.

Nope, I'm perfectly aware that, pretty much like most inventors out there, Tesla grabbed some existing ideas and improved them. I'm also aware that Tesla didn't really mind whether he would be given credit for his work or not, as long as it changed the world for the best. That said, he was often either ridiculed for his ideas, or taken advantage of like he was by Edison. Also, Edison spread false information and electrocuted animals in an attempt to save his monopoly... heartless businessman?
