@blueskiesvegas you said that like you were disagreeing with someone but it wasn't a reply.....

@playstation132 yeah... they are completely different. It's more like writing a lick on guitar in a certain key, but on bass. Listen to Are you in by incubus, any chili peppers, victor wooten. One of my all time favorite bass lines is "The Dreaming Tree" by dave matthews band. If you were to just keep up with the root note it would sound "okay" but all the different stuff stephan does gives it so much depth. Hope this helps!

I think the point is that if learning never stops on an instrument. And if there's always a new style or sound to learn. How can any instrument be easy or hard? I mean you can't "Know" bass, you can know SOME bass.
So yeah, the people who refer to bass or drums as an "easy" instrument are the same people who think the process of being a musician plateaus at some stage when you can say: "AH I KNOW EVERYTHING NOW!"
No art was ever like that, and Ben Folds is a great musician and songwriter.

Guitar and bass are the same. Look at what everyone has said on here. You think I give a shit? Hahahaah you all can suck the fat string off a bass
-
Haha, well said

haha thats the question i guess. I think if you know who to be melodic while also laying down a strong foundation along with the drums and not being over powering (unless thats what you're going for i suppose). Definitely need to be a ensemble player. There's nothing like a rhythm section that has there shit together.
Naw, this is from "The Bens" tour with Ben Lee and Ben Kweller in Austrailia (2003). The recorded a short four-song EP over a weekend and played some gigs.
