Korea claims more than 50 000 years of history, dating from the country's foundation by Tangun. It is rich and unique in culture because its people are one ethnic family and speak one language. Koreans have developed and use a unique alphabet called Hangeul. Hangeul was created by King Sejong during the Josean dynasty (1392-1910) and it is considered to be one of the most efficient alphabets in the world. Hangeul has gathered unanimous praise from language experts for its scientific design and excellence.
Korea's famous traditional foods include kimchi, a fermented vegetable dish, and bulgogi, a marinated meat dish. Although most people now prefer Western clothes like suits and jeans, the national costume, Hanbok, is worn by many people during national holidays like Seol (the lunar New Year) and Chu-Seock (Thanksgiving).
