when i was 16 i had a job earning 7.50/hr min wage was like 5ish, i could work for one hour and buy almost 8 gallons of gas @0.87/gallon... now i make 10/hour and i have to take out a whole days work to fill my tank up (MAYBE) think about it, the dollar has lost 500% of its value over 10 years...

@FSBO Correct on both counts. And it was a deliberate policy after WW2 to keep American fuel prices low. I just filled up my car . It was the equivalent of $140 .
