@BourbonPilot What you're forgetting is that Luke Piloted T-16's back home. Not to mention astromech droids are assisting in the flight. Also Luke just hit his Jedi puberty. O yea and the biggest thing is that this is a movie and if Luke didn't kill the death star then that pretty much ends the trilogy right there.

Not to add to the nerdgasm going on here, but the story as seen in the original movie has Luke as a "bush" pilot in his T-16 (seen parked in the garage in the film) The T-16 and the T-65 "X-Wing" are both made by Incom, share similar flight decks and have similar handling, though the T-16 Skyhopper is obviously slower and not spaceworthy
