Sometimes I despair for this country when I see heavily-armed, mindless, mouth-foaming teabaggers running around calling for violence and assassination of President Obama and all Democrats, and the stark ravingly insane and racist laws coming out of places like Arizona and South Dakota. But then I see how even someone like Barbara, who came from a privileged, cocooned background of wealth and power, can develop a conscience and a sense of empathy with others.
