Violence has intensified around Damascus, the Syrian capital, amid reports of shelling by government forces on rebel controlled towns and fierce street fighting. President Bashar al-Assad forces shelled the towns of Douma and Zabadani to the northeast of the capital and the town of Moadamiyet al-Sham to the southwest, official and activist sources said on Thursday. In the town of Daraya in the suburbs of Damascus, additional troops were deployed, as the army escalated its assault on rebel-held town. Al Jazeera's Kristen Saloomey reports.

The civil war could have been averted had Assad implemented serious reforms instead of listening to his sister Bushra Al Assad in surpressing the protests as his father Hafez did in 1982.

thats to show you that the Syrian Air Force is no match for Israeli Air Force. If they can't fight a guerilla warfare using air power then this war will prolong. A couple of SAMs to the rebels could do the job. The only way the Syrian Air Force can do more damage is carpet bombing

"Arabs killing Arabs." They say dogs fight amongest dogs , but when the wolf comes they get together to fight the wolf, but in this case the wolf is on the sidlines cheering both side of the Arabs to kill each other.
