The ancient Thracian city of Perperikon (also Perpericon) is located in the Eastern Rhodopes, 15 km northeast of the present-day town of Kardzhali, Bulgaria, on a 470 m high rocky hill, which is thought to have been a sacred place.

Human activity in the area dates back to 5000 B.C. The first traces of civilization on the hill date from the Bronze Age, while the ceramics found on the place date from the Early Iron Age, as well as the impressive round altar, almost 2 m in diameter, hewn out of the rocks.

  • I can give you many other examples and proofs, but since I'm not going to argue with anyone and I don't like call names to others, I will let you proof it for yourself.

Just one more thing: we may be stupid but at least we are cleaver enough not to write something when we don't know the language:))))

  • I've never ever said that Macedonian people are stupid, as I said many times I don't hate or blame them for stealing my country history. I do have very good friends in here witch are from Macedonia, and I can tell that they are pretty cool individuals, but I do hate trash talkers witch only spam against other countries, racism. The one who blame are Macedonian "historians" for writing all this fake and corrupted history in their books.

  • Thracian culture was a link between Europe and the East. Such outstanding finds as the Vulchitrun gold treasure of the eighth century B.C., the Panagyurishte gold treasure of the fourth century B.C., the tombs near the town of Kazanluk and the village of Mezek, Haskovo region, belonging to the same period, and the Rogozen treasure (North-Western Bulgaria) - all testify to refined tastes and consummate craftsmanship and art.

  • Thracian culture was actually different for some tribes, the Greeks had strong influence under the southern tribes,so they certainly effected their culture in some way, while the northern tribes was much more influenced by the barbarians living near them.

  • The biggest state alliance of the Thracians, the state of Odrys, existed from the beginning of the fifth century B.C. until the beginning of the third century B.C. Its first capital was situated somewhere along the lower reaches of the Maritsa River. In mid-fourth century B.C., this state disintegrated into three smaller alliances of which the one with the capital of Seuthopolis (in the area of present-day Kazanluk) survived longest.

  • Yeah, the Odrysian kingdom was indeed the biggest Thracian union under a single king - Teres.

  • Honestly, why is it that when you always open a video about history in Bulgaria/Macedonia/Greece etc. there are always haters arguing "who was here first, who did what first, who's better" and so on, why can't you just enjoy the video and not bitch, moan and complain all the time, it's not like YOU actually build an ancient city, temple etc. so you can't claim it as "yours", the people who did that died long ago, and all the crap you are talking is just like pissing on their graves, shame on you

  • "...When Octavian, father of Augustus, at the head of his army, came upon the Holy Mount of Dionysus, he consulted the oracle about his son, and the prophets said to him that his son was to rule the world, for as the wine was spilt onto the altar, the smoke rose up above the top of the shrine and even unto heavens, as had happened when Alexander the Great himself had sacrificed upon that same altar".

    Gaius Suetonius Tranquillus

  • @jojoton4eva One of my friends told me a great story about a time when he was on a dig in Albania. When they unearthed skeletons from the city the authorities wanted to know whether they were Greek or Albanian. He was astonished so he asked politely how he was supposed to tell the difference. He was told that the Albanian skeletons were bigger and stronger, while the Greek ones were thin and effeminate. Kinda sums up the whole thing right there.

  • Way aq bu adam perperikonun yanındaki gölde çıplak yüzüyordu gavat :D

  • Thrace is the home of Orpheus & Dionysis. <3

  • Hi,

Thanks for the reply and for the nice words about Macedonian people, although we are from Bulgaria. You probably have misundestood this fact. I'm curious about how do you relate Bulgaria with the acient Thrace? Al I've read about this topic is taken from Bulgarian sources and some ancient historians translated into English, but it will be interesting for me to see this matter from other's perspective.
