Instruction for cyclic sparring sequence #2. The initial defensive sequence is equally applicable to defending against a jab/cross/front-kick attack, and helps train the use of the front hand in the minimal movement necessary to easily cope with the two incoming hand attacks, while the back arm is kept ready for a further threat (the kick), or - more generally - it might be used to exploit a counter-attack opportunity.

  • what's the target of front kick? Hope u can make a video for teaching front kick

  • Hi Mary. The cross leaves you close (so kicking lower is easier) with the defender somewhat side on. The bottom of the rib cage is a good target, thrusting inwards and slightly upwards. In a fight, they might block differently: the general abdomen region is good, but if there's opportunity target the solar plexus, groin or front knee. Twisting and vertical kicks can easily be substituted, still hitting when the defender thinks they're safe. I'll make a front-kick instructional video soon.

  • Hi Mary. Sorry it's taken a while, but I've uploaded an instructional video for front kick as you asked. If you've only been training a short while, it may be a bit overwhelming, but I it can give you a few useful pointers, and reward repeated viewing as your training progresses. Regards, Tony

  • correction: at 1:33 "I meet that with an outward block with outer forearm" should say "inward block"
