You know, Lucy says the existence of diclonius is simply to bring an end to the human race, but I think diclonius are a lot like humans. They crave love, they want to be noticed and cared for. Lucy snapped because she was deprived of those things as a child. All she knew was merciless bullying, and that's why she made her first kills in the orphanage. And Mariko was isolated her whole life.
