"The mysteries of Lisbon or What the tourist should see," filmed on the basis of Fernando Pessoa's guide, written in 1925, is a tribute to the poet.

The original version of the film, narrated by Peter Coyote, was recorded in English, respecting the preference of the author.

The guide is written in plain language and stripped of rhetoric: It is visual, as if the poet were a cicerone of his hometown, inviting the reader-traveller to travel around the moving city.

This guide is intended not only for tourists who visit Lisbon, but also to all those, including its inhabitants, who want to discover the city through the eyes of the poet. Or for anyone who is interested in Pessoa, in Portugal and its history, culture, art and literature.

The whole story is told in Lisbon, Portugal, through its buildings, its monuments, its churches and the statues of its heroes.

References to a Lisbon that Fernando Pessoa never knew are also present in the film, a modern Lisbon, symbolized by the characteristic buildings in the Expo area, and the Centro Cultural de Belém. As the main character in this story, Lisbon is a living organism that grows, that feels pain, joy and suffering, but that survives.

Besides the original English version, there are also two Portuguese versions, one narrated by a Portuguese actor and the other by a Brazilian actress, and versions in Spanish, French, Italian and German, narrated by male and female voices, each representing another voice of Pessoa.
