@mattlwilson2 Because scientology isn't a religion. It's a for profit organization that exists through repressing free speech, and specifically the mistake they made was repressing that speech on the internet. Anon isn't some anti-religion group, it's an idea that motivates and galvanizes the masses of the internet to protect their medium. The internet is what unites everyone, so for everyone to rally against something it has to threaten that and be an easy enough target that most get on board.

Although you've got to admit, not all ideologies that are considered "religions" are the same. Buddhism, for example, is still dogmatic in nature, but its own teachings admit that if any of its claims are proven to be wrong by science, it must admit defeat on that point and accept the truth. Whether or not its followers believe this is another problem, but at least it's not like the Vatican, which just loves to claim infallibility.
