Just goofing around with some stop frame animation. I'm using a Canon EOS 10D with a Canon Zoom Lens EF 70-300mm. The first two claymations I'm posting were not planned, I just put some clay shapes on the light table and started shooting photos. I used PhotoShop CS to save each image as a 640x480 jpg. Then, with QuickTime Pro, I first compressed them into a dv video file then compressed that file into a 320x240 MPEG-4 movie using the H.264 video codec at 30 fps.

  • how long does a minute movie like that take to make?

  • @ 30 fps it takes 1800 images for one minute of animation. The amount of time it takes to acquire the images depends on the changes you make between each frame. For this particular movie I simply set my camera to take a picture every three seconds and quickly made my changes between shots. So approximately 2340 images @ 3 seconds per image took about two hours.
