Although the A108 is far easier to drive in base-5 operation, the A108 was originally designed to operate in base-10, using an unusual flip-flop circuit. Note that no more than one cathode is illuminated at any given moment. The Soviet flip-flop circuit is external to the YS-650, and is driving the A108 through the YS-650's external pulse interface.
