Funny, when I was there in 1991 I had a chance to speak with several Mid-Level Iraqi Officers, having taken their surrender.
They were clear as to what their war aims were:
1. Cancel their war debt to Kuwait by invading.
2. Use Kuwait's wealth to rebuild Iraq.
3. Put political/military pressure on Saudi Arabia
4. Put economic pressure on the West by controlling the Gulf.
But, what do they know. I'm sure a Youtube General has the fuller strategic picture.

I hate how people say "Blah blah blah war over oil", when in reality Iraq's oil production is less than 50% of what it was pre-US invasion. So YEAH, win.
