This 60 litre Paxman V12YHA Diesel Ship Engine is from HMS Rhyl and was displayed and run at Hollowell Steam Rally 2011.

A few interesting facts...

Cubic capacity works out at nearly 60 litres, with 12 cylinders that's almost a gallon per cylinder.

Max speed continuous 1000rpm but could do 1500rpm in an emergency. Try not to run at 1500rpm for too long as things get very spectacular with bits flying everywhere.

Rated at 450bhp but read somewhere that the pressure charged engines went up to 1,000bhp.

An oil change will empty a 205 litre barrel of engine oil and at full power it will happily chew its way through 23.5 gallons of fuel every hour. Just to put that into context, most car fuel tanks are around 11-12 gallons.

  • Why is there a blond chick mounted to it?

  • @sangolt88 it's hers and her husband or partner's engine... that's why! :-)

  • @Henzzman given that this one was from a ship, I would imagine it's really quite efficient when it's doing what it was designed to do. Running it on a trailer certainly isn't efficient, but there isn't anything large enough for it to drive! Also, I think the bigger the engine the more efficient it is, regardless of how much fuel it drinks. I think that's true of diesels anyway - the massive mine tipper trucks are bigger than a house, but have the most efficient engines in existence! :)

  • @sangolt88 It's painted white, she thought it was a kitchen appliance?

  • I would love to have that much HP under my foot or my hand.

  • think about making a tractor with that

  • haha! she thinks it's the kitchen!

  • @fishsponge she's getting a good vibration lol

  • BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN ! This device canbe converted into electric SEE H2W etc... LINEAR MOTORS & VOICE COILS placed inbetween the heads &the tops of the pistons can produce TONS of power 60k Hp 24k ft lbs Tq . @ any stroke self generating NO FUELS ! for hundreds of years.WE have NOT ! needed gasoline since 1969 ! STOP POVERTY and the GASOLOONS not to mention the governments plans to make SLAVES of your children. SEE H2W for the facts.( L.M.s & V.C.s PUSH & PULL the pistons ) mike peine

  • @farcryaustralia oh yeah... had i seen it inside a boat I might have twigged, but I never thought of that having seen it on a trailer! lol - you must be spot on!

  • @sangolt88 I'd say because she was enjoying it being a bit out of balance - check her legs twitching near the end - what blonde would'nt want to be mounted on a 450 Hp vibrator - that's more powerfull than the " Symbian " on a well known site !!!

  • @fishsponge i believe being a boat motor the emergency start is a manual start button in case you cant start from wheel house for some reason like a mechanical failure. It is a safety thing, dont want to get stuck at sea hey :)

  • @vierme666 the emergency start might be there if this engine was used as a backup generator. not 100% sure
