Radiant barrier technology was created by NASA over 40 years ago to protect astronauts in the Apollo program from extreme temperatures. Now, this same technology is used to make homes and businesses more energy efficient, since a majority of heating or cooling loss comes through the ceiling and roof. http://www.rotobrush.com

Installing a radiant barrier as shown above will cook the roof deck, the shingles and signficantly lower the life of any roofing system...unless it's steel. Further, once dust settles on the top surface the effect of the reflecting of infrared heat is reduced signficantly.
