My god. I just finished watching this TODAY, and it's definitely one of the BEST series I've ever seen. Great characters, plot, twists and themes - and the relationship between these two is the heart of it all. Hitomi/Van is one of few canon pairings I actually LOVE, and one of the fewer I might FIGHT to defend.

This video really captures the essence of 'Escaflowne' - the best cliche-storm anime EVER - as seen through these two characters. Give yourself a pat on the back.

@AnimalQueen95 I bet Hitomi would've wanted to, as well. But it's not that simple - she has friends and family on Earth as well, and Gaia isn't her world or home. Leaving home forever to stay with the one you love sounds nice on paper, but in reality Hitomi would probably hurt every day, aching for other parts of life.

Besides, it's strongly implied they will unite again after death- these two are practically soulmates, and their romance is one of the best-written I've seen in my life.
